Aston Villa midfielder Joe Cole has told the club's official site that the players are responsible for turning around their recent poor form.
Pressure has grown on manager Paul Lambert, after a disappointing opening to the campaign, but Cole has suggested that it is the players that the club's fans should be blaming.
Villa are currently just three points above the drop-zone, with their form looking worryingly poor, but Cole has belief that the side will turn things around.
"Ultimately, the answer lies on the pitch with the players," he admitted.
"We are the lucky ones who have the opportunity to go out there and change it. We are the ones who have to work out, day by day, how to move on.
"I'm very confident in this team, the manager and the collective strength of Aston Villa."
One of the major issues with Villa's season so far has been their lack of a goalscoring threat.
Lambert's defensive tactics have sucked the enjoyment out of matches at Villa Park and their paltry return of 11 goals in 21 Premier League matches highlights just how badly they have struggled.
They will be hoping that the signing of Casper Gil, who is expected to sign for the club in the near future according to the Mirror, will turn their fortunes around in this sense because if he doesn't it looks like it could be a season of struggle for the Midlands outfit.
