Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with plenty of forwards, but some make more sense than others.
Tottenham Hotspur have once again been linked with Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco...but why?
What Spurs desperately need right now is a quality and consistent goal-scorer – a player in the mould of Jackson Martinez or Andre-Pierre Gignac who can take Mauricio Pochettino’s side to the next level.
In Harry Kane, Tottenham have a wonderful forward who links up play and is now proving a regular danger in front of goal. But he cannot do it alone, and Tottenham will be all too aware of the need for another star to lighten the load on the 21-year-old before it takes its toll.
With Christian Eriksen a wonderful attacking midfielder and the likes of Nacer Chadli and Erik Lamela also impressing this season, a player like Giovinco is not the answer, despite the latest claims from Tuttosport that Tottenham remain interested in the 27-year-old.
With the Juventus player set to be a free agent in the summer, any move for him this month would be strange, especially when you consider his scoring record – no goals this season and only 18 in 129 appearances for the Turin club.
He fared better at Parma, where he scored 23 times in 70 games, but he is not the answer to Tottenham’s problems.
Pochettino must spend big on a quality front-man who can score 30-plus goals a season; but getting one will not be easy.
