Stoke City fans react on Twitter to Glenn Whelan's performance during 3-0 loss

N'Zonzi, Mertesacker, Whelan

The midfielder's display at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon left a lot to be desired.

It's often difficult to single out a poor performer after a humiliating loss in the Premier League.

Sometimes, however, one particular player does enough to make himself stand out. And during Stoke City's 3-0 loss at Arsenal, that particular player seemed to be midfielder Glenn Whelan.

Granted, the Stoke side delivered a poor display all across the board at the Emirates, with Arsenal - conversely - delivering one of their best of the season.

Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla and the like ran riot as Mark Hughes' side simply offered no opposition. Whelan seemed to offer less than everyone else, however, and found himself in a number of comical situations.

Cue Stoke fans on Twitter expressing their frustration with the man who hasn't scored for three years. And they weren't the only ones - with many supporters of other clubs accusing the Irishman of stealing a living. The 30-year-old was unconvincing to say the least against Arsenal and fans weren't afraid to hide their disappointment.

Stoke, who have enjoyed an encouraging season up until their trip to the Emirates Stadium, remain 11th in the Premier League after their defeat, while Arsenal have moved into fifth - one point off fourth-placed Manchester United.

Here are some of the best Twitter reactions to Whelan's performance...
