Report names club said to be in talks with Arsenal’s Benik Afobe

Flames At The Emirates

Benik Afobe is reportedly in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding a permanent move away from Arsenal.

Following reports on Saturday that Benik Afobe was set for a permanent transfer away from Arsenal, ESPN claims his likely destination is Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 21-year-old’s loan club MK Dons confirmed on their official Twitter account that Afobe was in talks with an unnamed club regarding a possible move, and now ESPN claim to know who that side is.

ESPN states they have been informed that the free-scoring forward is in talks with the Championship side but there has been no confirmation as yet.

Afobe has scored 19 goals so far this season and given his fine form it would have been no surprise if Arsenal planned on giving him first-team chances next season and beyond.

But following the tweet from MK Dons and the latest report from ESPN, it appears the youngster may be about to build a future elsewhere.

Afobe shot to prominence this season when he scored six goals in just four League Cup matches, including two against Manchester United. There is no doubt he is a fine young talent, but with the forwards already at Arsenal’s disposal, it would be a real struggle for him to earn much first-team recognition in the short term.

In an update Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has confirmed the negotiations.

In quotes published by the Express and Star, Jackett said, "We have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Benik Afobe and he is undergoing a medical this weekend. We are working towards concluding that early next week."
