The Blues scored twice to kill the Toon off but that didn't stop Mourinho from heaping praise on Carver, according to the Newcastle caretaker boss.
Indeed, the Portuguese coach even joked that the 49-year-old could receive a five-year contract!
“He said to me: ‘If you keep playing like this you’ll get a five-year contract as Newcastle manager’,” Carver is quoted as telling reporters by the Daily Mirror.
“It was nice. At the end of the game he said: ‘You deserve the job, you’re ready for it now. I hope you get it’.
Carver has been in caretaker charge at Newcastle since Alan Pardew left the club for Crystal Palace, where he won his first game in charge against Tottenham on Saturday.
As things stand, the 49-year-old is currently third-favourite with bookmakers to be given the manager's job on a full-time basis, according to sports betting website Oddschecker.
It's just a shame for Carver, however, that Chelsea boss Mourinho isn't a member of the selection panel!
