Report: French midfielder could improve Manchester United, says Higginbotham

Morgan Schneiderlin could be a target for Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal, according to Danny Higginbotham.

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin would be perfect for Manchester United, says Danny Higginbotham.

Schneiderlin has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur as former Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the midfielder.

There have also been several rumours that Arsenal may be interested in the Frenchman’s signature, as manager Arsene Wenger looks to add some defensive steel to an otherwise attacking midfield.

However, Higginbotham believes that United should join in the race for the Saints star as well, as Louis Van Gaal’s side are a little short in the midfield department.

Speaking to talkSport, he said; “Man United are still a little bit short in midfield and I’m sure that they’ll be looking to get new players in.

“There are a few players about, I think he [Morgan Schneiderlin] is one of them. There will be a lot of teams around that are interested in signing him, and he may even look at today – no disrespect to Southampton – as an advert to put himself on show.”

United are expected to be active during the January transfer window after spending heavily in the summer to bring in players such as Angel di Maria, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo.

“I don’t prefer to wait. I have shown that with Victor Valdes. When we can buy a player who can improve my selection I, or the club, shall buy,” Van Gaal recently told The Independent.

In fact, Van Gaal has already admitted that he is willing to spend £150m in January if it means he can sign the right players.

The Red Devils have already secured the signature of goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer, and have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in recent weeks.
