Everton produced a spirited fightback against Manchester City to draw 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Everton followed up a late draw against West Ham in the FA Cup in midweek with another draw, this time against Manchester City in the Premier League

Here are some of the best images to tell the story of the game...

The pressure was really on Toffees manager Roberto Martinez, with Everton enduring a poor season to date. The late equaliser against West Ham on Tuesday night was a boost, but they really needed to build on that against City, with some fans calling for the Spaniard to be sacked.

One of the players most strongly criticised this term has been Romelu Lukaku, who hasn't lived up to his £28m price tag so far - but here, the Belgian impressed. He gave the City defence no end of problems with his physicality, and Everton have to hope this continues in the coming weeks.

Despite the good display, Everton's spirits were dampened when Fernandinho headed City in front with just 15 minutes to play. David Silva was through on goal, but saw his shot blocked, yet fortunately the ball flew up into the air and straight to Fernandinho, who headed home despite the best efforts of Everton defender Seamus Coleman to clear the ball away.

It wasn't long before Everton were level again though, as Steven Naismith headed home a Leighton Baines free kick to equalise. Joe Hart came out to punch the ball away for City, but was beaten to the ball by Scottish international Naismith, who simply guided his headed into the empty net.

For City, there was a huge boost - the return of Sergio Aguero. The Argentine has been out injured since the two sides met just over a month ago, and having been named on the bench by manager Manuel Pellegrini, Aguero came on with just 25 minutes to go. He may not have scored, but having Aguero back is a huge boost to City's hopes of chasing down Chelsea.

Frank Lampard was also on the bench, and came on with only eight minutes left. The former Chelsea star has been embroiled in a controversial transfer involving New York City FC, and Pellegrini maybe chose to just keep him out of the limelight after a difficult week.
