Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley congratulated him for winning against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
In what his first home game in charge of the Eagles, Pardew led the London club to a 2-1 comeback victory over city-rivals Tottenham.
It was a brilliant result for Palace and one which has enhanced their chances of survival in the Premier League, and it seems that Ashley was impressed with it.
“When I turned on my phone after the game the first text was from Mike Ashley,” The Guardian quotes Pardew as saying.
“He just said ’great result’ and I appreciated that from him. He knows that it was probably the right time for everybody concerned.”
Pardew recently left Newcastle to take up the managerial position at Palace, and one would have thought that it did not go down well Ashley.
However, it appears that Pardew and Ashley parted company on good terms, something that does not always happen in football.
The win against Tottenham has lifted Palace up to 15th in the Premier League table with 20 points from 21 matches, a point above the relegation zone.
Pardew has a tough task on his hands if he is secure Premier League football for another season for Palace, but he has certainly got off to a good start.
