Manchester United morning update: Early team news; Ben Pearson praised

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Sunday just weeks after Louis van Gaal’s side overcame the Saints 2-1 at St Mary’s.

United were lucky that day, with two Robin van Persie goals sealing the three points when Southampton had played some great football. And today’s hosts will be well aware what Ronald Koeman’s men have to offer and how seriously they will have to take them.

In early team news, the BBC reports that while Ashley Young is out with a hamstring injury, United have been boosted by the return of a whole host of players.

Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Rafael, Antonio Valencia and Marouane Fellaini are all tipped to return and it will be interesting to see United’s starting line-up with so many stars available at last.

In other news, United youngster Ben Pearson has earned praise following his loan move to League One side Barnsley.

The 20-year-old midfielder impressed in a 2-0 win against Yeovil and in quotes published by Barnsley’s official website manager Danny Wilson said, “The young lads who came in, the ones who have made their debut, they stood up very well to the test.”

When asked if the recent loan moves could be extended, including Pearson’s, Wilson said, “We’re hoping to extend them yes, it is whether the glove fits for both, really.”
