Crystal Palace returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.
It was manager Alan Pardew’s first game in charge of the Eagles following his recent appointment, and it proved to be a memorable one.
Tottenham, who were expected by many to win the contest, took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Harry Kane scored a brilliant goal.
However, instead of crumbling down, Palace stepped up their game and deservedly picked up all three points.
Dwight Gayle scored a controversial penalty in the 69th minute to restore parity for the hosts, before Jason Puncheon struck a late winner to settle the London derby.
It was a truly encouraging performance from Palace, who are now out of the relegation zone and in 15th in the Premier League table with 20 points from 21 matches.
Following the win, Palace stars Gayle, Glenn Murray and Fraizer Campbell took to social networking site Twitter to express their joy.
