Confirmed: Manchester United and Southampton line-ups

Old Trafford 2

Here is how Manchester United and Southampton will line up for this afternoon’s match:

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Shaw, Blind, Carrick, Rooney, Mata, Di Maria, van Persie

Manchester United subs: Valdes, Evans, McNair, Blackett, Fellaini, Herrera, Wilson

Southampton starting XI: Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, S. Davis, Ward-Prowse, Elia, Pelle

Southampton subs: K. Davis, Gardos, Long, Tadic, Isgrove, Reed, Targett

Manchester United welcome Southampton to Old Trafford with Louis van Gaal’s side seeking to close the gap on second-placed Manchester City following the Blues' 1-1 draw on Saturday.

United are currently 10 points behind the reigning champions but a victory this afternoon will cut that gap to seven points with plenty of football still to be played.

Southampton will know a win of their own will see them leapfrog today’s opponents and earn revenge following United’s 2-1 win at St Mary’s earlier this season.

That said, today’s hosts have a wonderful home record and can welcome back a number of previously injured stars, meaning Ronald Koeman’s men have a very tough task ahead of them.

Unbeaten in their last 11 matches, could United stretch that record this afternoon or will Southampton burst their bubble?
