Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Nemanja Matic's performance this weekend

Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-0 on Saturday, but what did fans of the Blues make of Nemanja Matic's performance?

Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-0 on Saturday, avenging the defeat the Magpies inflicted upon them earlier this season.

It was a much-needed victory for Chelsea, who had lost 5-3 to Tottenhan Hotspur in their last Premier League match and had seen reigning champions Manchester City cut the gap at the top of the table to mere goal-difference.

However, Chelsea's victory coincided with Manchester City's 1-1 draw with Everton, meaning Jose Mourinho's side are now clear at the top of the table once again.

Nemanja Matic was suspended the last time these two sides met, and his absence was seen as a key reason for Chelsea's first defeat of the season.  So how did the Serbian international do this time round?

As you can see from the statistics below, the Chelsea midfielder touched the ball an impressive 100 times, but his 83 per cent passing accuracy was below his own high standards.

He played two key passes, won nine duels, three interceptions and three tackles, and as always he and Cesc Fabregas played a key role in Chelsea's victory.

After the match we took to Twitter to see what Chelsea fans thought of Matic's latest performance, with some suggesting he was his mercurial best and others believing he was off form.
