Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor believes an exciting crop of talent coming through at Parkhead will be given opportunities to impress under Ronny Deila.

Callum McGregor knows what it takes to make the grade at Celtic having stepped out of their academy system to join the senior ranks.

The 21-year-old Glasgow native has been carefully nurtured into a first-team performer, with last season spent on loan in England at League One side Notts County.

A spell at Meadow Lane offered him the chance to get regular game time under his belt and important competitive minutes.

He returned to Parkhead a better player for the experience and has been able to force his way into Ronny Deila’s plans as a result.

McGregor has been impressing on the big stage, making 28 appearances in all competitions this term, and claims there are others coming through ready to join him.

The likes of Jamie Lindsay, Joe Thompson and Aidan Nesbitt have been offered opportunities to impress during a mid-season break in Gran Canaria and are being tipped to make the breakthrough under the current coaching regime.

McGregor told the club’s official website: "It is brilliant to see the younger boys getting a chance. That's what the manager is all about, If you work hard he'll give you a chance.

“They've been doing well playing with the U20s and they've had some great exposure in the English Premier League International Cup, so hopefully that can continue that."

Deila has regularly expressed a desire to bolster his ranks during the January transfer window, but he may be able to add greater depth to his squad while looking to closer to home.

Celtic have a history of giving players of promise a stage on which to perform, with many having grasped that opportunity with both hands down the years.

McGregor is among the latest to make that transition from boy to man, but he will not the last and could be joined in a Scottish Premiership title pursuit by fellow home-grown talents before the season is out.
