Bolton Wanderers manager Neil Lennon has been singing the praises of Josh Vela.
The 21-year-old has been in superb form in recent weeks and has developed a remarkable versatility.
Vela started out as a midfielder, but he has been moulded into a right-back, a position in which he has excelled.
The youngster started against Leeds United at the Macron Stadium in the Championship on Saturday and gave a good account of himself.
Vela had a pass accuracy of 83%, put in five crosses, attempted three take-ons, won 50% of his aerial duels, and made six clearances.
Lennon was pleased with the performance of the Englishman and is quoted as saying by Bolton’s official website: “I thought Josh Vela was outstanding from start to finish. We’ve got a 21-year-old lad there who is just getting better with each game.”
Despite Vela’s impressive performance, Bolton had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Rodolph Austin put Leeds ahead from the penalty spot in the third minute, and Eidur Gudjohnsen replied in kind for the Trotters in the opening minutes of the second half.
The result leaves Bolton in 16th place in Championship table with 30 points from 25 matches, seven points above the relegation zone.
