Tottenham transfer news: Club linked with James McCarthy move

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Mirror reports that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has identified the Toffees star as a viable alternative to long-term target Morgan Schneiderlin, who could remain at Southampton this month.

The latest report claims Tottenham are interested in the 24-year-old despite suggestions Everton boss Roberto Martinez has no intention of selling a player allegedly rated at £25million.

Tottenham had previously been linked with a loan move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot. But it has since been reported by Le10 Sport that the French club’s chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi is yet to give the move his seal of approval, leading to doubts over whether it will happen this month.

McCarthy has played 57 times for Everton, scoring one goal and providing four assists in that time.

He previously played for Wigan Athletic – where he made his name – playing 133 times, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.
