Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino targets third place in Premier League

Mauricio Pochettino says that Manchester United, Southampton, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are in the running for the third spot in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes that his side can finish third in the Premier League this season.

The North London outfit are currently fifth in the league table with 34 points from 20 matches, just two points behind fourth-placed Southampton.

Manchester United in third are only a point ahead of the Saints, and Pochettino believes that Spurs can catch Louis van Gaal’s side.

“It's clear that Chelsea and Manchester City will be first and second," The Daily Star quotes Pochettino as saying. "But after that, nothing is clear. I think we have to ask who is going to be third as well.

"I think it is possible. Everything is possible in football if you believe. Why not? There is Manchester United and Southampton.

"Southampton is a strong team, West Ham and us, we need to try. It is only in our mind and we need to believe. When you believe all is possible.”

Tottenham can indeed finish third in the Premier League if they continue their impressive run of form. Spurs are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competition and are looking very good.

Of course, as the season progresses, Spurs will drop points, but so will the other teams. United have already started to slow down, thus the three point-gap between them and Tottenham.

Interestingly, Pochettino does not mention Liverpool or Arsenal as the teams who can finish third this season.

While the Reds are currently eighth and may not even finish in the top six, Arsenal are just a point and a place behind Tottenham in sixth.

Pochettino is not getting carried with his team’s recent positive results, but he is certainly getting more ambitious.
