Sunderland fans react on Twitter to Connor Wickham's performance this weekend

Sunderland Inc Wickham

Sunderland lost 1-0 to Liverpool today, and fans were critical of striker Connor Wickham.

Sunderland continue to hover precariously above the relegation zone after a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool this afternoon.

The Black Cats were poor throughout, and could only must one shot on target as Lazar Markovic's goal gave the Reds a win that was far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

Sunderland were reduced to ten men in the second half when Liam Bridcutt was handed a second yellow card, and it was fairly indicative of their terrible afternoon.

With such little threat in front of goal, it was little surprise to see fans criticise striker Connor Wickham after an ineffectual display.

Wickham, 21, has scored just once in the last ten games, and did very little against Liverpool - much to the ire of the Sunderland fans who watched on in December as Wickham signed a new contract to stay at the Stadium of Light.

Amid interest from West Ham, the Black Cats gave Wickham a new deal worth a reported £60,000-per-week, and so far, it's not looking like a great investment.

Fans took to Twitter to air their views on Wickham, saying that substitute Danny Graham offered more in just 15 minutes than Wickham had in the previous 75.
