Newcastle United’s Jak Alnwick explains absence v Chelsea

St James Park

Jak Alnwick is not fit enough to feature for Newcastle United against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this afternoon.

Jak Alnwick has explained why he is not in the Newcastle United squad for today’s Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The 21-year-old is not even on the substitutes’ bench for the game at Stamford Bridge, with Tim Krul returning to the starting line-up.

Netherlands international goalkeeper Krul has missed the last 10 games for the Magpies with an ankle injury, but he is back between the posts today.

Teenage goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is on the bench for Newcastle, with Alnwick out of the matchday squad altogether.

The youngster has explained that he is out with a shoulder problem and hopes that Newcastle win despite his absence.

Newcastle will head into today’s game placed 10th in the Premier League table with 27 points from 20 matches.

Chelsea will be favourites today, but the Magpies could well cause an upset, just as they did against the Blues at St. James’ Park last month.
