Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has backed Chelsea to win against Newcastle United in the Premier League today.
The Blues will head into today’s match at Stamford Bridge on the back of a 3-0 home win against Watford in the third round of the FA Cup.
However, prior to that victory, Chelsea suffered a stunning 5-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho’s side have arguably the best defensive unit in England, which made their collapse against their London rivals all the more sensational.
Owen, a former Newcastle striker, does not a repeat of that today when Chelsea host the Magpies.
“An extraordinary stat that Chelsea conceded as many goals at White Hart Lane last time as they had in their ten previous PL games but I expect normal service to be resumed at the Bridge against the Magpies who have yet to appoint a successor at James’s Park following the departure of Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.
Most football followers will back Owen’s prediction. Chelsea have the better team and playing at home is certainly going to be an advantage.
Newcastle have shown signs of struggles in recent weeks and will be the underdogs today. A win certainly looks beyond the reach of the Magpies, and a draw may not be feasible either.
