When Liverpool signed Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, seasoned fans of the Bundesliga knew the Reds had pulled off a wonderful piece of business.
The midfielder was making waves in Germany as a teenager and while it understandably took him time to settle in England, he is now showing what Brendan Rodgers bought for a reported £10million.
Can shone for Liverpool during their 1-0 victory against Sunderland on Saturday, starting in a back-three but later moving into midfield when Steven Gerrard was substituted at half-time.
The 20-year-old's versatility is one of his key attributes, with Liverpool now in possession of a player who can excel pretty much wherever he is asked to play.
Against Sunderland, Can had a passing accuracy of 92 per cent, touching the ball 69 times and playing two key passes to set up goal-scoring chances for a teammate.
He also made three tackles, three effective clearances and won six duels, as well as going on two dribbles. In short he did a fine job and along with another youngster - Lazar Markovic - he showed that Liverpool's next generation are a cause for real optimism at Anfield.

Emre Can can be an absolute superstar. 20 years old. Same goes for Marković and Sterling. Unbelievable wealth of talent.— Dan (@LfcDan) January 10, 2015
