According to a report in the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur could turn to Everton midfielder James McCarthy as an alternative to alleged target Morgan Schneiderlin.
There is little doubt Tottenham need more quality in central midfield but which of their alleged targets has enjoyed the better campaign to date?
Below we take a look at the two players' Premier League showings this season, with the Southampton man a considerably more dangerous attacking option but the Everton star out-performing the Frenchman in some key defensive areas.
Tottenham have been heavily linked with Schneiderlin since Mauricio Pochettino first arrived at White Hart Lane, and the 25-year-old has continued to show why, scoring three league goals this season and playing an average of 0.67 key passes per match.
He also wins an average of 2.73 tackles per game, almost one more than McCarthy.
However, the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international wins more duels on average per match and makes considerably more effective clearances.
|Passing Accuracy||Goals||Goal Assist||Key Passes per Game||Tackles Won per Game||Interceptions Won per Game||Duels Won per Game||Effective Clearances per Game||Mins Played|
Of the two alleged Tottenham targets, Schneiderlin offers more when you consider the statistics above, but in truth neither Southampton nor Everton are likely to part with their key men midway through the season...or at all for that matter.
