The SD Eibar defender has been rumoured to be on the way to Derby all week.
Derby County picked up a crucial win this afternoon, defeating title rivals Ipswich Town at Portman Road thanks to a goal from ex-Canary Chris Martin.
The win firmly reaffirms the belief that Derby County are in the hunt for promotion, despite the odd setback recently.
But manager Steve McLaren will not be resting on his laurels. The Derby boss has already moved to bring Darren Bent in on loan and to turn Ryan Shotton's loan deal into a permanent one from Stoke City.
Now he is trying to bring in another Spaniard to join Ivan Calero and Omar Mascarell at the iPro Stadium.
They have been linked with a move for SD Eibar defender Raul Albentosa.
The ball-playing defender was reportedly close to a £470,000 deal earlier in the week but so far nothing has been confirmed for the La Liga star.
After the game today however Steve McLaren confirmed his interest in Albentosa to the Derby Telegraph. He is quoted as saying:
"He (Albentosa) is someone we have pursued and we are trying to do a deal.
"We are looking at him and we are interested but I don't know where we are at the present moment with it."
So it looks like no deal is as done as has been previously mentioned but Derby remain keen and they are likely to want a deal done by their next fixture, the derby against Nottingham Forest.
