When Liverpool signed Lazar Markovic for a reported £20million in the summer, more than a few eyebrows were raised. And when the Serbian international failed to live up to his considerable reputation during his first few matches at Anfield, there were some Reds fans adding Markovic's name to the list of questionable players to have arrived at the club in recent years.
Those who watched Portuguese football on a regular basis knew just what a talent Markovic is, but until he started showing that in England the doubts would always remain, no matter how young he is.
But now the 20-year-old is beginning to prove the doubters wrong, with some fine performances not least in the 1-0 win against Sunderland on Saturday.
Markovic scored the only goal of the game with a smartly-taken goal just nine minutes in, but he did so much more than just find the net.
The Liverpool winger had three shots in total, while he also played one key pass to set up a scoring chance for a teammate. Then there were his six dribbles, his 90 per cent pass accuracy and the three occasions he won a free kick.

Markovic is far from the finished article, but against Sunderland he showed that Liverpool's future looks extremely bright, with both him and fellow summer signing Emre Can impressing throughout.
When you consider Raheem Sterling, Jordon Ibe, Jon Flanagan and the like remain extremely young, there is no doubt Liverpool could go on to great things with some canny additions.
But for now Markovic must continue to improve, proving the remaining doubters wrong and showing that Liverpool pulled off a masterstroke in signing him.
