The Argentine attacker was reintroduced to the Catalan club’s starting XI for the thumping of lowly Elche in the Copa del Rey last night.
Despite the rumblings, the four-times Ballon d’Or winner was back to doing what he does best last night as he started and played a key part in the Catalan club’s 5-0 win over Elche in the Copa del Rey.
Having benched Messi and Neymar in the shock 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend, the pair were reintroduced to the starting XI alongside Luis Suarez by the under-fire Luis Enrique for the clash at Camp Nou.
Messi scored one of the five goals, slotting home the Blaugrana’s third from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, as can be seen below.
The Argentina international also set up his side’s fourth goal, assisting Jordi Alba’s strike with this impressive piece of play.
With his future said to be a point of contention, Barcelona fans across the world will sleep a bit easier after seeing Messi playing from the first whistle, seemingly happy and blowing kisses to the Camp Nou crowd after netting his goal.
