Tim Sherwood speaks highly of Tottenham Hotspur’s Nabil Bentaleb

Tim Sherwood backs Nabil Bentaleb to become the Tottenham Hotspur captain in the future.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has been singing the praises of Nabil Bentaleb.

Algeria international midfielder Bentaleb has been one of the best players for Spurs so far this season and has firmly established himself in the first team.

The 20-year-old has created five chances in 11 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, while having a pass accuracy of 86% and winning 49% of the duels.

The partnership between Bentaleb and Ryan Mason has been key in Tottenham’s recent success, with the two players making themselves a real force in central midfield.

Bentaleb, who is away this month for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, was given his first-team debut by Sherwood last season.

Speaking to Goal.com, Sherwood explained why he rates the Algerian youngster so highly, describing him as a player who has everything needed to succeed.

"Not only does he have the technical ability but he has the attitude and well,” said the 45-year-old. “He showed everyone else how to train – his mentality was top class.

"He trains like every day is the last day of his life. He cries his eyes out when he loses a five-a-side match. He would die for the club.

"That attitude is why he is a future Tottenham captain and there are no doubts he will have a successful career.

"Even when he's not playing so well, you know he will give everything and be brave. He won't hide, he will get about the pitch, he will demand the ball.

"He works so hard on his game, he's a very intelligent player and wants to get on the ball. He can do a bit of everything.”

Bentaleb has indeed been superb for Tottenham despite some injury problems, and he will be a miss in the upcoming games.

The youngster has a long way to go in his career, of course, but the maturity and intelligence he has shown so far certainly bodes well.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino rates Bentaleb very highly, which is why the 20-year-old is a regular in the first team.

Of course, Bentaleb will make mistakes and his form will drop at some stage, but he is certainly a player with quality and a bright future.
