Spanish football expert claims David De Gea has the ‘right profile’ for Real Madrid

Manchester United’s David De Gea has been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid.

The Spanish stopper has been linked with a switch to Spain for a number of months, and the talks will continue to intensify until he signs a new contract at Old Trafford.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been targeted as a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas at city rivals Real, and, although his fan allegiance lies elsewhere, the Bernabeu club could look to move for the 24-year-old now that United have wrapped up the signing of Victor Valdes.

Valdes, who signed for 18-months as ‘second choice’ goalkeeper, is a more than adequate replacement for De Gea should he leave Manchester in the coming months, and Spanish football expert Graham Hunter believes that De Gea would be the only ‘keeper Madrid would target if they needed one.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Hunter said: “It would be David De Gea, he’s the right profile. His talent has never been in question.

“It would be a devastating blow to the neighbours Atletico Madrid to bring back the keeper who was brought through as an Atletico fan prodigy.”

Whilst these words will bring no comfort to United fans who are scared they could lose their number one stopper - who is one of the best in the world at this moment in time - Hunter did admit that a transfer seems unlikely right now, with Real already owning two top class goalkeepers in Casillas and Keylor Navas.

He continued: “But for the people who want credibility in transfer stories you have to put into the case that Madrid have two high class keepers at the moment.

“Do Real Madrid genuinely want to cause another fuss by bringing in De Gea and relegating Casillas? I’m absolutely clear from briefings that Manchester United want to keep De Gea.”

With the current goalkeeping situation in Madrid, maybe United can now convince De Gea to sign his contract extension with the Red Devils, to tie his future down to Old Trafford.
