Todd Kane was hounded by the media during his first day at Wilford Lane, following his signing, which is being dubbed as the product of Sky Bet’s transfer fund. Nevertheless, the former Bristol City loanee took time out from the national press to talk to Forest’s official website.
During the interview, the 21-year-old right-back was quizzed over the links to players in Stuart Pearce’s side, but one name in particular was revered more so than the rest by Kane – Michael Mancienne.
‘‘He was really good,’’ Kane explained. ‘‘He was one coming through and being a young lad, coming through the ranks, you look up to people like that.
‘‘For him to be here as well, it helps me to settle in, knowing someone.
‘‘It’s really good for him to be here as well, it’s a massive club’’
Mancienne, who was signed from Hamburg for £1 million in the summer, has had a huge impact at the City Ground this season and despite the club’s league position, he has earned the tag of one of the top defenders in the Championship.
As one of the early favourites for promotion, it has been a disappointing few months for the Reds who have recorded just the two wins in 19 games.
The arrival of Kane, who Pearce hopes will be the first of a number of signings this window despite the embargo, will hopefully add a spark for the Reds who have two tough games coming up.
Stuart Pearce’s men will host Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, before travelling to the iPro Stadium to face-off against high-flying bitter rivals Derby County.
