Belgian wonderkid Youri Tielemans has agreed to pledge his future to Anderlecht.
Tielemans is one of the most highly rated prospects in European football, and looks to be the next star in the long line of talent coming from Belgium.
A 17-year-old midfielder, Tielemans is currently turning out for Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League, having originally joined them as a six-year-old in 2002. He has made 63 appearances for Paars-wit since making his debut in 2013, and he is already a regular of the Red Devils Under-21 side, winning six caps, despite his young age.
His impressive form, and some strong showings in the Champions League, has led to increased interest in the prodigal talent from abroad, and some of Europe’s top clubs were said to be tracking him. Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has reportedly scouted the youngster as he looks to strengthen his midfield, while the same report also suggests that Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are tracking him, as well as Borussia Dortmund, who have had a £4.5 million bid rejected by Anderlecht.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has also personally scouted Tielemans, but as of yet, there is no indication as to whether the Blues will submit a formal offer for him, and fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United look to have an advantage over other clubs, after the youngster himself admitted that he loved Louis van Gaal's men.
Yet, despite all the interest, it looks as if the youngster will be staying with Anderlecht for the near future, as Tielemans has agreed to sign a long-term contract with the Belgian side as soon as he turns 18-years-old. A report in Belgian media outlet HLN is claiming that he will sign his future down to 2019, and he told the press that he is agreeing the contract to thank the club for the role they have played in the progress of his career.
“I'm going to remain with RSC Anderlecht,” he said. “I will sign it when I turn 18, because I want to do it like a man. I am very grateful to the club for everything they do for me and this way I want to thank them for this.”
Tielemans turns 18-years-old on May 17, and, after that date, it looks as if any club looking to sign the talent will face an increasingly uphill battle for his signature.
