Liverpool great Mark Lawrenson has backed Chelsea to ease to victory over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s side will head into the Premier League clash on the back of a 3-0 victory over Watford in the third round of the FA Cup.
However, prior to that win at the Bridge, Chelsea had gone down 5-3 to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the league.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have not won in the New Year, and their last game ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup.
Little wonder that former Liverpool star Lawrenson predicts a 3-0 win for Chelsea tomorrow.
“This is a tough game for Newcastle's caretaker manager John Carver because I expect Chelsea to be back to business as usual after their defeat by Tottenham in their last league game,” the 57-year-old told BBC Sport.
Chelsea will indeed be favourites tomorrow, but one needs to remember that last month they lost to Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
The Blues were predicted to win on that occasion as well, but it was Newcastle who registered a 2-1 win.
Perhaps a similar upset is in store…
