Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn has revealed that Zan Benedicic has gone back to Italy.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Championship club from Italian giants AC Milan on a season-long loan deal in the summer transfer window.
Much was expected of the talented Benedicic who arrived in England with a strong reputation, but he has been out for most of the campaign with a knee injury.
The youngster was expected to return to action in the New Year, but Redfearn has suggested that it could be a while before the Slovenian can play competitive football.
“He has gone back to Italy,” InsideFulbol.com quotes the Englishman as saying. “He has had operation.
"Obviously he is in rehab now, but I don’t think he is at the point where he can start rehab fully. But he has had his operation.”
Leeds are currently 20th in the Championship table with 24 points from as many games, just a point above the relegation zone.
The Whites are back in action on Saturday, when they take on Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.
