In January 2014, Newcastle United sold Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint Germain, and fans were dreading a similar situation this time round with Moussa Sissoko. The 25-year-old has been in great form for The Magpies this season, and there has been speculation linking him with a move elsewhere.
Whilst the uncertainty over their new manager continues it looks as if Sissoko will be staying put for the rest of the season. Firstly PSG manager Laurent Blanc told press that they are not looking to sign Sissoko. Then the midfielder himself tweeted the following message.
I'm a professional player and I stay focused on my team NUFC #DontListenToRumours— MS 7 (@ms_sissoko) January 9, 2015
Sissoko's words tell the story and it looks as if there has been no official approaches from any club for his services. Whoever the new manager at St James' Park ends up being there is no doubt he would believe Sissoko to be central to his plans. However Newcastle fans know Mike Ashley's track record with the club and can never be at ease when it comes to the possibility of one of their best players being poached by another club.
To keep Sissoko and other players at the club for the long-term they will need to show more ambition with their incomings. Perhaps once the new manager is appointed, funds will be made available for him to put his mark on the squad.
