The Spanish goalkeeper has given his support to the Portuguese in the individual award, while distancing himself from the Barcelona man.
Whether the Argentine is set to leave the Catalan club or not remains to be seen - but arch rivals Real Madrid won’t be signing him any time soon.
When asked by reporters whether the European champions would greet Messi’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu, goalkeeper Iker Casillas claimed he would not want the four-times Ballon d’Or winner in the Spanish capital.
"I would not sign him,” the Los Blancos custodian told Marca. “We are very good with those of us here and accomplishing great things.”
Casillas went on to dish out another blow to Messi, claiming that his club team-mate and current Ballon d’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo should retain the prestigious individual accolade ahead of the Argentine.
"Obviously Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’Or,” he concluded.
The winner of the Ballon d’Or will be announced at a ceremony in Zurich on January 15, with Messi Ronaldo and Manuel Neuer up for consideration.
Messi’s club future looks set to be speculated for much longer however with the January transfer window in full swing.
