Former Barcelona ace sends special message to new Manchester United signing

Ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Pinto congratulates Victor Valdes on signing for Manchester United.

Ex-Barcelona ace and former teammate Pinto has taken to Instagram to send Victor Valdes a message of support on hearing of his move to Manchester United.

Valdes joined the Red Devils this week on an 18-month deal and will offer competition to current Spanish number one David de Gea.

The former Barcelona man left the Catalan club after the expiration of his contract in the summer, but his future was in doubt following a long-term injury sustained towards the back end of last season.

It was a major blow for Valdes as he missed out on a Copa Del Rey final showdown with Real Madrid, a potential La Liga winners’ medal and ultimately a proposed move to French side Monaco.

Nonetheless, the 32-year-old remained upbeat and decided to train with the Old Trafford outfit in the early stages of this season after being invited by Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.

While initial reports suggested that there wasn’t much in the way of a potential future transfer, his progress over the past few months has subsequently persuaded United to offer him a contract.

On hearing the news, Pinto was one of the first to congratulate his friend, writing on his official Instagram page in warrior-type style:

“My friend @ vicvaldes1 although we were in competition we were never enemies or rivals, on the contrary, we combine forces to help in every battle of ours to come out victorious.

“Sometimes we succeeded and others although we did not we tried our best. It is an honour to have fought beside you.”

"Now that you return I know you will with the courage that always characterized you. Lucky are those who now have you in their ranks, because they just been reinforced with a warrior who will fight until victory.

"From warrior to warrior all the force in the world.”

Valdes won 21 major trophies while at the Nou Camp, including three Champions League titles, two Copa Del Rey trophies and six La Liga titles.
