Former Liverpool and West Ham United goalkeeper David James believes that Newcastle United should have appointed Neil Warnock as their manager.
Warnock was sacked as the Crystal Palace boss just after Christmas, following which Alan Pardew left Newcastle to succeed him at Selhurst Park.
Former Leeds United boss Warnock is currently without a job and is reportedly not on Newcastle’s list of candidates.
James, a former England international who also played for Manchester City, claims that the Magpies should have done a swap deal with Palace.
“I think that they missed a trick,” the 44-year-old told BT Sport. “I think that they could have done a nice swap deal with Neil Warnock… I am not a massive fan of Mr. Pardew, but I am a Neil Warnock man.”
One suspects that Newcastle fans will not want Warnock to be their team’s manager, given his track record in the Premier League, and the fact that he was sacked by a side struggling against relegation.
