Middlesbrough have confirmed the signing of Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas on loan for the rest of the season.
Kalas, 21, joined Chelsea from hometown club Sigma Olomouc in the summer of 2010 for a reported £5.2 million fee, and has since made four total appearances for the Blues.
The Czech Republic international spent two consecutive campaigns on loan at Dutch club Vitesse between 2011 and 2013, before joining FC Cologne this past summer on another season-long deal.
His stint at the Bundesliga outfit was cut short last month, however, due to a lack of first-team minutes, before Boro manager Aitor Karanka's relationship with Jose Mourinho from their time working together at Real Madrid led to his Teesside switch.
A versatile defender, who is comfortable at both right-back and centre-back, Kalas now joins fellow Chelsea loanees Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo at the Riverside Stadium, and is eligible for tomorrow's Championship trip to Reading.
