Spanish press highlight Lionel Messi’s history of Barcelona bust-ups

Marca have reminisced about the Argentine’s public and private spats with former team-mates and managers.

Transfer speculation surrounding Lionel Messi is rife in the English and Spanish media currently, with the Argentine star said to have fallen out with Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.

Reports claim that Chelsea are preparing a world-record bid for the diminutive superstar, as he is supposedly ready to leave Camp Nou for a new challenge.

Messi was left on the bench by Enrique for Barca’s shock 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at the weekend, with star player and manager said to be at loggerheads.

However, Marca have released an article stating that the disagreement is nothing new and that the four-times Ballon d’Or winner has an acrimonious past in terms of butting heads with others at the Catalan club.

The Spanish daily state that the South American forward had a role in Zlatan Ibrahimovic being pushed out of the club, while also highlighting on-pitch disputes with David Villa.

Messi’s relationship with former coaches Pep Guardiola and Gerardo Martino was also examined, with examples of the player being unhappy with the managerial decisions of both listed.

Finally, the report also claims that Messi was unhappy about the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea and wanted Barcelona to sign Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid before he joined Manchester City.

Just what the future holds for Messi remains to be seen, while all eyes will be on Enrique’s team selection for the Copa del Rey clash with Elche on Thursday night.
