Rafa Benitez turns down Peru job; may return to Premier League

Napoli boss Rafa Benitez won't be signing a new contract at Napoli, according to his agent.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez has sparked rumours of a return to the Premier League after turning down the vacant Peru job, reports the Mirror.

The Spaniard’s contract at Serie A side Napoli is set to expire in the summer and he has turned down the opportunity to manage the South American country.

The international side had offered him the chance the lead them to the next World Cup, but the former Liverpool manager reportedly has his eye on a potential return to England instead.

"In Peru, they can forget about Benitez. He will not be a national coach but will coach at another club,” said his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon.

It is a well-known fact that Benitez’s family still live in Merseyside following his stint as Liverpool manager, and the Spaniard is a frequent visitor to England as a result.

If his agent’s comments are to be believed, it seems unlikely he will be signing a new contract at Napoli, despite leading them to the Italian Super Cup last month.

As early as November last year he was being linked with a return to Liverpool, although that is unlikely to happen. The news will certainly interest Newcastle United though, who are looking for a replacement for Alan Pardew.

The Magpies would be keen to have an experienced Premier League manager in charge, and Benitez certainly has the credentials to impress owner Mike Ashley.
