The Spain international started the 2-0 Copa del Rey win over city rivals Real Madrid at the Vicente Calderon last night.

Fernando Torres played his part in Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey last night, making his second debut for the Spanish side.

The former Chelsea man has suffered a tough time of it in recent years and is officially on AC Milan’s books but on loan at the Vicente Calderon.

The Spain international will hope that ‘coming home’ will help him rediscover the form that made him a revelation in his first stint with the club.

Against Madrid, Torres started in attack with the support of Antoine Griezmann, and played the first 59 minutes before being replaced by Koke.

According to, the ex-Chelsea and Liverpool man received a rating of 6.4 for his efforts, with only Saul Niguez and Griezmann getting a lower figure on the home side.

The 30-year-old did not manage a shot at goal and was caught offside by the Real defence on three occasions.

Torres was clearly on the peripheries as he only made nine passes in 59 minutes, five of which were successfully collected by an Atletico team-mate.

He did win two aerial duels and made one successful tackle but also committed a game-high five fouls.

Diego Simeone was full of praise for Torres after the game, even if the forward had limited impact on proceedings.

"Torres transmits excitement and energy," the Argentine said.

"He is strong, he is fast and he needs time to build up an understanding with his team-mates. That will come by playing more minutes.”

Here are the best photos of Torres in action in his first match back for Atletico Madrid.
