The Magpies star was in first-team training ahead of Newcastle's trip to Chelsea this Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle travel to Chelsea for a Premier League clash on Saturday and the sight of Dutchman De Jong in practice will no doubt be a boost for the St James' Park outfit.
De Jong, signed by Newcastle for £6m this summer, has been on the comeback trail from a long-term injury for some weeks now.
Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday's clash at Chelsea, caretaker boss John Carver told reporters:
“Success this season has to be to get as high up the table as we can,” he said. “We finished fifth a couple of years ago and that was fantastic, so why can’t we push for fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth?
“There’s all this talk about the club being happy to sit in the top ten. No, go as high as you can. Set your marker as high as you can and if you get there, what an achievement."
Earlier this season, Newcastle beat Chelsea 2-1 at St James' Park.
