Manchester United yesterday snapped up their first signing of the January transfer window. Weirdly however it was a player they could have signed outside of it.
They have finalised a deal to sign Victor Valdes on a free transfer. Valdes has signed an 18-month deal at Manchester United, with an option for a further years extension should that prove a success.
Valdes has been a free agent since the summer, when he left his beloved Barcelona for a new adventure. When he announced that decision he made it clear that he had grown up hoping of one day playing in the Premier League, now he is set to get that wish.
Of course the deal came about thanks to Valdes's previous working relationship with Louis van Gaal. The United boss gave him his debut at Barcelona and offered him the use of United's training facilities in his comeback from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered last March.
So it is the goalkeeper top of Manchester United and not Liverpool or AS Monaco that Valdes will wear going forward and yesterday he took the opportunity to pose in his new colours as he signed on the dotted line at his brand new club.
