Manchester United are linked with Tim Krul, while Newcastle have been linked with signing Shola Ameobi.
Newcastle United have been linked with re-signing a former fan favourite, but could face a fight to hang onto one they already own.
Shola Ameobi was released by Turkish side Gazientep this week by mutual consent for personal reasons, just months after leaving Newcastle.
The Star report the striker is now interested in a return, and caretaker boss John Carver wants him too.
As a free agent there are no stumbling blocks to re-signing Ameobi, who could provide cover for AFCON bound Papiss Cisse.
A new threat has emerged however in terms of holding onto Tim Krul, with The Mirror reporting Manchester United are interested in the Dutchman.
Krul played under Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal at the World Cup, and he wants to bring in the Newcastle star if the club are unable to hold onto David de Gea in the summer.
Victor Valdes was signed permanently by United yesterday, but with concerns over his knee, interest in Krul is prudent.
Newcastle would be reluctant to sell, but do have a ready made replacement coming in this summer in Karl Darlow, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.
