Manchester United youngster Paddy McNair has revealed that Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Ramos are his two favourites defenders of all time.
While Ferdinand is currently playing for Premier League club Queens Park Rangers, Ramos is on the books of 2014 Champions League winners Real Madrid.
Defender McNair, who is enjoying a breakthrough season at United, is full of praise for the duo, especially for Spain international centre-back Ramos.
“All-time, probably Rio Ferdinand and Sergio Ramos,” the 19-year-old centre-back told United’s official website when asked which defender he admirer the most.
“I trained with Rio a few times when he was here, and he passed on a few tips, and Ramos is a really good player for Real Madrid. He’s more of an all-round footballer than a defender.”
Ferdinand is now past his past and at 36 is coming towards the end of his career. But in his prime, the former England international was one of the best centre-backs in the world.
During his time at United, Ferdinand won the Premier League title six times, the FA Cup and the Champions League once each, and the League Cup on two occasions.
Meanwhile, Ramos is easily one of the top-three central defenders in the world. The 28-year-old has been at Madrid since 2005, and has won La Liga thrice, the Copa del Rey twice, and the Champions League once.
