Leicester fan group disappointment shows Leeds what they could have in Sol Bamba

Leeds United have been linked with signing Sol Bamba, and the reaction from Leicester City fans when he was sold suggests fans may enjoy his addition.

Former Leicester City defender Sol Bamba has been linked with a loan move to Leeds United.

The Ivory Coast international has been out of favour at Italian side Palermo and is being targeted for a switch to the Championship side.

His experience of English football will be of huge benefit to Neil Redfearn's inconsistent Leeds side, and he has all the potential to be a fan favourite.

That's exactly what he was at Leicester, until his sale for £750,000 back in 2012, when he joined Trabzonspor in Turkey.

The reaction from fans at Leicester at the time speaks volumes. The Leicester Mercury quoted Cliff Ginetta, chairman on the Leicester supporters club:

"A lot of fans are disappointed Sol has been sold and they have to make up for that. It is a big decision by the manager to let a player as popular as that go because we need that bit of spark, that bit of excitement.

"He has been a very popular player since he has been here. He scored in the first minute of his debut and he was the one player we had who got you out of your seat.

"When he storms forward it was a bit like Steve Walsh, getting the ball and running at people. Sometimes he looks a bit awkward and made a few mistakes but he is an exciting player."

Leeds do already have options at the back, but that hasn't stopped the side from leaking goals in recent games.

With defender Giuseppe Bellusci under Football League investigation for an alleged racist remark, there is a possibility he lands up banned for a handful of matches.

Bamba will add important depth in the position, and if the reaction from Leicester fans is anything to go by when he left, could become a real cult figure at the club.
