Liverpool transfer news, latest on Milner links, Sturridge trainer speaks

Liverpool Wall

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.

Liverpool still retain an interest in Manchester City midfielder James Milner according to the Daily Mail, with the Englishman out of contract at the end of the season.

The report says that City are still confident of Milner signing a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, but the 29-year-old has delayed signing a new deal as he seeks assurances on playing time in the first team.

The Times, however, reports that talks have broken down and the Reds are in pole position to sign the midfielder in the summer, as he has reportedly informed teammates there is little chance of him staying at the club beyond the summer.

The man who is currently treating Daniel Sturridge has given an interview to the Liverpool Echo as Sturridge seeks to get back to playing for Liverpool this month.

Sturridge has not played for the Reds since August because of thigh and calf injuries, and has been working with Scott Schrimscher from EXOS - who worked with the Germany national team during their World Cup triumph.

Schrimscher said: "Daniel has an incredible work ethic and is wonderful to work with. He is a class act and has a bright future ahead."

Inevitably there is still talk about Steven Gerrard after his move to LA Galaxy in the summer was confirmed yesterday.

The Liverpool captain gave his first interview with the MLS side ahead of the move, saying:

"Their pursuit of me was very aggressive and the talks I've had with them have been very positive.

"They basically told me what I wanted to hear - they told me about the winning mentality at the club, their aims and goals for the future - and it suits me at this stage of my career. I think it's the right time for a new challenge, a fresh challenge in my life and it's an exciting one."
