Bild claims that an €18 million deal is nearing completion for Xherdan Shaqiri, who looks to be heading to the San Siro this month.
Any lingering hope Liverpool fans may have held regarding the potential capture of Bayern Munich star Xherdan Shaqiri may well have been extinguished amid reports from Germany claiming the Swiss star has signed for Inter Milan.
According to a report from Bild, the 23-year-old is set to complete an €18 million move to the Serie A club after Bayern Munich agreed to left the winger leave the Allianz Arena.
Shaqiri has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga giants since the summer, having grown frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities with the Bavarians.
The former Basel favourite was one of the standout performers for a Switzerland side that progressed to the knockout stages of the World Cup, losing 1-0 to Argentina after extra time in the second round of the competition.
Shaqiri’s undoubted highlight came against group whipping boys Honduras with the winger netting a memorable hat-trick to ensure the European side progressed to the knockout phase at the expense of Ecuador.
Upon his return from Brazil the midfielder was linked with a whole host of clubs, including Liverpool who were reportedly keen to complete a deal for the youngster.
However no agreement materialised and Shaqiri’s prospects of one day turning out for the Anfield club look slim with Inter seemingly closing in on a deal for the Swiss star.
The Nerazzurri are looking to bounce back from a disappointing start to the Serie A season that saw manager Walter Mazzarri sacked and replaced by former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini.
Inter currently sit 11th in the Italian league standings and are eight points off the much-coveted final Champions League qualification space.
The Milan club are also in the last 32 of the Europa League and are due to meet Scottish champions Celtic in the next round of games.
