Everton midfielder John Lundstram set for Leyton Orient loan

Everton-owned youngster John Lundstram is set to swap the Championship for League One.

Everton prospect John Lundstram looks set to join League One side Leyton Orient on loan.

The 20-year-old spent a portion of last season on loan at the O’s, playing nine games in total for the club, including an appearance in the play-off final against Rotherham.

He has spent this season on loan at Championship side Blackpool, making 17 appearances in total. However, Everton were reportedly unhappy with that deal and recalled the midfielder earlier this month.

It’s likely that Roberto Martinez was simply unhappy with the number of games the youngster was getting at Bloomfield Road and wishes for him to get more game time elsewhere.

Reports suggest that an agreement with Orient is imminent and will be announced shortly.

When Lundstram originally signed there on loan he was guaranteed first-team football as Blackpool were struggling to assemble a squad for the upcoming season.

Also, given the current turmoil surrounding the club, it’s possible Martinez may have wanted the youngster to develop in a more stable environment than that currently found at Blackpool.

The Spaniard certainly seems to approve of the loan market as a means to give youngsters game time, having sent several of the youth team squad out on loan this season and last.
