The Dutch international is likely to be out until the end of February.
This week has seen Manchester United's apparent interest in Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar once again rear its head. The Dutch international was a lynchpin of the Netherlands side when current United boss Louis van Gaal was head coach and with his contract expiring at the end of the season is finding himself linked with several different teams.
The likes of Southampton and Napoli are also said to be keen but United were rumoured to be planning a £1.5 million move for the player this month, hoping Villa would cash in on the player before losing him on a free in the summer.
Well there is news on the Villa defender today, but it is simply yet another sign that United should not sign Vlaar.
He is clearly a bargain buy, with Premier League experience and he knows the manager, but his injury record has not been great this season and that has not changed today. Aston Villa have confirmed that Vlaar is set to miss the next four to six weeks with a knee injury.

Vlaar has played 12 times in the league this season from a possible 20 due to niggling injury problems and Manchester United do not need another injury-prone defender to plug their defence.
He had an excellent World Cup, but considering he is now out until the end of February it does not look like it will lead to a dream move to Manchester United this winter.
He will have to wait until his contract expires in the summer if that deal is to come to fruition. But after this injury, United are likely to be having second thoughts.
