Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Ron Vlaar's latest injury

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Aston Villa fans took to Twitter on Thursday to voice their frustration at seeing Ron Vlaar go down with another long-term injury.

Injuries have been nothing new for Ron Vlaar this season, having missed eight Premier League games so far with continuing calf problems, and now the Aston Villa captain looks set for another spell on the sidelines.

Villa have confirmed that their star skipper has undergone a knee operation which is expected to keep him out for four to six weeks, leaving the claret and blue faithful once again frustrated.

Out of contract in the summer, Vlaar is reported to be intent on a new challenge, but this latest news mean that a move this month looks to be off.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and Napoli have all been linked to the Netherlands international since his starring performances for Louis van Gaal’s side at the World Cup, but it seem certain that interested parties will now hold off for the moment.

With Villa looking set to lose Vlaar for nothing at the end of the season, the decision not to cash in on the centre-back in the summer now looks like a big mistake in hindsight, and a fair few fans have taken to Twitter to declare as much.
