Despite being just 21-years-old, and impressing in a number of appearances for City, it appears as if Nastasic is no longer wanted at the Etihad.
Since signing for the club in 2012, Nastasic has somehow gone from being one of the most highly-rated defenders in European football to being cast out of the City squad. He has yet to make an appearance for Manuel Pellegrini’s men this term - except in the Community Shield - and, with no future at the Etihad, he was reportedly being offered out to both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur over the summer transfer window.
They were willing to allow the Serbian international to depart the club, favouring a permanent deal away, although nothing came of the interest.
Since then, a number of other clubs have been linked with the youngster, including Bundesliga side Schalke and Serie A club Internazionale. However, it is Inter’s close rivals AC who have now moved ahead in the race, according to reports in Italy.
Tuttosport have suggested that Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is in contact with Nastasic’s agent as well as City, although the club may be put off by City’s reluctance to loan him out. AC would prefer a loan deal, but City are looking to sell him permanently, and the report has no indication about how the talks are progressing - although they are still ongoing.
With his availability on the market, it would be unwise for both Arsenal and Spurs not to go all out to try and sign the young defender this month, especially with his experience of the Premier League. Highly-rated, and with a reading of the game unparalleled for someone his age, Nastasic is only going to improve as a player, and both North London clubs should look to follow up their long-standing interest in him by submitting a formal offer before he agrees to switch England for Italy.
