West Ham United were denied a win in their FA Cup third-round tie at Everton, after Romelu Lukaku’s 92nd-minute equaliser saw Roberto Martinez’s side salvage a 1-1 draw.
Defender James Collins put West Ham ahead with a powerful near-post header from Morgan Amalfitano's corner in the 56th-minute, before Lukaku’s late strike sparred the Toffees a fifth successive defeat.
With the replay between the Premier League pair at Upton Park set for next Tuesday, goalscorer Collins remains confident of progressing to the next round, but isn’t about to underestimate the Toffees’ strength.
“It was a great ball in from Morgan Amalfitano and I managed to get my bald head on it and it skidded into the goal,” he told the club’s official website of his goal. “We knew they conceded from set plays and I hadn't scored for a while, so I fancied one, to be honest!
“We'll take them back to Upton Park and with our fan behind us I'm sure we'll beat them there,” he continued. “It'll be a tough game, as it was against them at Goodison Park in the league too. They're under a bit of pressure at the minute, so I'm sure they'll bring the fight to Upton Park."
As well as netting his first goal of the season, Collins also made a game-leading 22 clearances over the course of the 90 minutes, while winning four aerial duels up against the imposing Lukaku.
His performance was impressive enough to see him earn the club’s man of the match award on the night, and a sizeable number of fans took to Twitter to hail his impact.
Been impressed with Ginge tonight, seems calm and composed on the ball rather than the usual one touch and hoof. #whufc— Ross McGlasson (@rossmcglasson) January 6, 2015
